Secret Santa 2009

Okay, well, it’s that time of year again where we ask for people to put themselves up for Secret Santa. You don’t have to be a PG regular to participate (but it will help if you’ve posted a profile in All.About.You. so we know what things you like).

The rules are simple:

  1. Sign up below before Monday, 7 December
  2. Wait to get notified of who you’ve been assigned
  3. Make them a gift that can be shared in digital format
  4. Post the gift here sometime between Dec 24 and 26

Keep Me A Secret: Chapter 2

Previously: Chapter 1 [U]

‘Update my fic,’ Clom said. Who am I to refuse? As an aside, thank you on behalf of Clom to everyone who delurked to post a comment on the last chapter – illalwayswonder, verbalvandal, nautic187 and Rc – and to those who popped back to remind us that you all still love the Spashley. And a special hiya to our male reader (you know who you are).

Rating: U.

PGCCCLII: Unique

I am cold.

I am sitting in an office in a building that is over a hundred years old. There is no heating on two of the three floors and the heating that we do have is so antiquated that it works intermittently at best on one of two settings: ice cold or blast furnace. Today, it is at ice cold. The temperature in the office is about 5C (40F).

PGCCCLI: Portable

A little tip for those of you who might want to install apps to your work PC but don’t have administrator access: go portable.

PGCCCL: Awrabest

Scottish title today, in honour of the fact that it’s Yeebs’ birthday, among others.

Happy Birthday to everyone who’s celebrating today. I’m not around at all, so big up to all of you.

[Sorry - forgot to specify I meant coach and Flawr]

PGCCCXLIX: Festive

Today, I’m feeling especially festive, as I’ve been making a list and checking it twice and planning a mini-facelift for the site for the festive season.

PGCCCXLVIII: Random

We got two messages from Mells1976 yesterday. I’ve now approved them so they’re here: Top Tens @105 and Top Tens @115. As Mells indicated that someone else was responsible for the abusive posts and at least one other named person posted abusive comments from that address, then the IPs will remain in the moderation list for now.

PG CCCXLVII – Top Tens.

I can’t help it, I love em.

They’re controversial, my father and I argue about them and I love them. The “Top Ten” of anything.

And I love hearing yours. So here we go:

PG Abuse Warning

Due to abuse, I have added Mells1976’s IP address to the moderation queue. So, all comments from that address will be held for Clom or myself to approve before they’re posted. This will remain in place until I am satisfied that the issue is resolved. Unfortunately, this will affect everyone who posts from the same IP address. At present, that is only Mells1976 and jason8969 (his posts have been previously been deleted as abusive), but there may be entirely innocent posters who are affected by this move and I apologise in advance.

Thankfully, the reverse IP look-up provides the contact details of the IT supervisor responsible for abuse through that domain. For obvious reasons, I’m not going to post them here so, if anyone else affected by this decision wishes to take it up directly with their local IT team, you can contact me (dev0347) and I will send you his email address and phone number.

If you work at the same company and don’t want to inform IT support, here’s a handy guide to password-protecting Internet Explorer on your machine.

PGCCCXLVI: 44 Days

This is just a short reminder to everyone that Christmas is now only 44 days away. For me, anything under 50 days is soon enough to break out the Christmas tunes and my vast and extensive collection of crappy Christmas films.

I’m definitely feeling festive this morning!

PG CCCXLXV – Spam

This is not a post about Monty Python. Nor is it a post about canned ham product. It’s a post, indeed, about the wealth of internet garbage that washes the shores of, yes, this very blog.

If your comments go missing, it’s because our overactive spam filter has eaten them. I clear it out, as does Dev, but often it’s far too late. Usually it’s because you’ve posted three times in a row, or put more than one link in, or something.

However, our filter is grand in that it actually gets all the real spam. Some of which is quite amusing.

Here is a selection for you.
