Questions for the Authors

On the off chance you wish to know anything about our writing or us, I thought there should be an appropriate place to put your questions. What we choose to answer will be at our own discretion. If you want to target your question at one of us, please let us know. If you don’t, we both have fairly healthy egos so we’ll both jump in with our opinions. We’re usually right. Unless we disagree with one another, then we’re wrong.

This is assuming that anyone has any questions.

Our healthy egos suggest you might.

Actually, I do have a question for both of yuhs. If you think it’s too personal or whatever, I can accept that. Doesn’t mean I’ll be happy about not getting an answer, though…

How did you two meet your lovely ladies, and/or did you ever try to write a story based off of your meeting and/or story? =D

    I’m a nosy romantic, sorry.

you a romantic? I’m the one who was doing the romancing here. Anyway my question is to Dev.

How are you such a good beta? Did you study all of this in college or whatever you call it, university? I don’t know. What did you major in if you went to college/university at all?

    Love ya Payne!

Er, I met mine through a friend and we hit it off. Then I charmed her and have been ever since. 5 years this October. Never written a story around it, cos it’s too personal. Don’t base my smut off it either.

No way, remind me to wish you a happy anniversary when the time comes! It’s cute, and I admire your want to keep things between you two. Or…whoever was in on it. That kind of…foot, I need you to shut me up.

I’m having major Precious Things’ withdrawal :(

Take your pick, please: One silly question, one really tough.

Tough: I’m curious about your process because your writing feels spontaneous, yet there is definite continuity. Do you get an idea and start writing without care of the conclusion, or do you think it through from start to finish before you begin filling in the blanks with lots of yummy stuff? For example, Precious Things: Spencer’s “secret” seemed like the centerpiece of the story. Did you build a story around that idea, or did that shocker come to you after you started writing oppressed Spencer? Any reservations depicting the graphic nature of the beatings?

Silly: If you were a television talk show host, who would you like to have as a guest (dead or non-dead) and what question(s ) would you ask them?

(Bonus question: May I please have the phone number of the person you “base” your smut off? Thank you ever so kindly. :D)

Um. I basically come up with an idea and if it sticks, i play it out in my head. Then when I sit down to write, I already have the skeleton of it in there. It sort of builds up around it. Things happen that I don’t quite expect sometimes. Like in PT, Aiden was supposed to be barely a mention, let alone a character. He just kinda, popped up. As for depicting the graphic nature of the beatings. I guess I did. I always think that if you’re going to write something hard like that, you should try and do it justice. But you should never try to justify the horrendousness of it, or anything like that. I hate when people just treat major life moments like… nothing. I guess. I really hoped I didn’t upset anyone though.

As for the silly question: Um, I would LOVE to interview my grandfather, now that i’m old enough to ask him the questions I’d love to know the answers to. And my grandmother on the other side. Things about my parents, things about their past. What being in a German camp was like. What the war was like. Or, possibly, i’d just interview Liv Tyler and ask her the same question over and over (will you sleep with me?).
Oh, and I don’t base my smut OFF anyone. Definitely not off my own life. I guess it just comes outta my head…

no you can’t have sex with my head.

Well can I have sex with your……………hahaha you asked for it!!!

I have a few questions for you Sezzle and as Dev is off doing whatevs. Pick and choose what you fancy love.

1)Fave fanfic you have read excluding Dev, Goob, Jeagray,Zimmy and Deeks? I hope I got all of the Cloobray gang!!!

    2) You always cover a serious subject matter in your fics and seem to handle it in an even-handed and diplomatic way.Any subject you wouldn’t cover?

3)What 5 words would you use to describe yourself.

4)what type of fanfics on Spashley don’t you like and why?

    5) Do you hate Aiden on the show?

    6) My fingers have gone blue by the start of my cast, is that normal? My brother-in-law who is a 4th yr med student is staying from tomorrow so I can ask him if you want a rest from all that!

    Cheers

Okay, Clom, I’ve got two more questions for ya, and I hope they turn out to be less personal.

When it comes to writing about Spashley, do you prefer first person, or the third person and its various categories, and between Ashley and Spencer, who’s point of view do you like writing from more?

That was one question. My second one (haha, numbers. sorry) is, out of all the stories you’ve written, which one do you have the softest spot for?

That’s all I got…for now. Sex questions will come later when I’m more…lively.

    Your fics are amazing….

    Posted 29 July 2008 at 12.11pm | Permalink

Ahhh… Freddikins. Thanks for the question(s).

I have three degrees. Two in what Americans call Fine Arts and we just call Arts (BA and MA) and a Masters of Science. And, when I was at university, a good 10% of your grade was based on spelling and grammar. Not like today when they accept any old shit from people who are barely smart enough for a McJob.

And my mad beta-ing skillz are enhanced by years of practice and lots and lots and lots of reading stuff like Fowler, Strunk and White, Lynne Truss, etc.

Being utterly convinced of my own rightness helps, too.

As for Payne’s question, I also met MrsDev through a mutual friend, but we were friends first because we were both seeing other people. And, no, I would never write any element of my life with her, even obliquely, into my fiction. Because that’s, you know, special and private.

    Posted 4 August 2008 at 10.44pm | Permalink

Understandable, thank you for answering my previous question!

    Question for Dev (…again):

How is it, exactly, that the album, King of Bedside Manor, help you realize your lesbianism…ism? If you don’t mind me asking.

  15. dev0347
    Posted 5 August 2008 at 7.30am | Permalink

Gordon (the BNL album) didn’t make me realise I was gay. I was just listening to it a lot during that period of my life. In fact, I used to listen to it every day on my way to work on what we used to call a “personal stereo”. This was a device that played “audio cassettes”. You can ask your grandparents about them or something.

And, yes, I bought the album (on CD – we did have them way back then) when it first came out in ’92 and me and my stoner friend Stevie used to listen to it in my bedroom. Those were also good times.

As for how I realised I was gay… Well, corny as it may sound, I met MrsDev and then everything that had not made sense before that moment suddenly seemed so obvious.

  16. Payne N. Uranus
    Posted 6 August 2008 at 10.50pm | Permalink

Corny is always good. There’s not enough corny in the world, s’far as I’m concerned. =D The good kind, of course. There’s plenty of crap corn (Jimmy crap corn and I don’t care…haha *ahem*).

Ah, that’s cool. Old school stuff. When next I see the dear grandmama, I will sit her down, bat my eyes and ask, “Mimi…will you take me to the museum?”

Btw, that was a mistype on my part, I don’t know why I put the song title as the album title, but I guess trying to figure myself out now would be…futile. =D

[I know *you* knew the right album. The link is there for anyone else who reads this thread. It’s my mission to educate people that the best BNL stuff is all on that album. One Week, while kinda fun in a kitsch way, is still not a patch on the genius of even the filler tracks on Gordon.

There are so many bands that I listened to back in the day that just died a musical death as soon as they had a big hit. Yes, REM, I’m looking at you.

Oh, and the entire world needs to appreciate 10,000 Maniacs In My Tribe.]

    Posted 7 August 2008 at 12.55am | Permalink

Haha, awww, thanks for the faith, Dev. I have actually yet to succeed to singing along to One Week. It’s impossible, my tongue gets tangled every time (an archaeological dig, my tongue got caught behind my tooth..ahhhh, Izzard).

My English teacher loved (or still does, probably) REM. I kinda don’t know what to think of them sometimes… but I researched 10,000 Maniacs, and found they’re quite deserving of appreciation! My music education continues to grow…

    My question is for clomle:

I just finished reading Best For Me and Le Marais over on the Spashley forum, both amazing stories by the way. Anyways, I got to the end of Le Marais and noticed that you had said you wanted to add one more chapter. So I was just wondering if you would consider writing that one last chapter (or more chapters) to finish up the story?

Er…This is a silly question but, uh…Wait, serious question first:

Do you think that you can top Ride With Me with another hot as hell fic? That was…Gosh. Wow.

Silly question: Do they have vibrating strap-on’s? Just asking becase I definantly don’t want one to use it on somebody…Heh.

Honest to god I don’t think I have another Ride With Me in me. But maybe one day :) And yes, they do have vibrating strap ons. I only know this because some of my friends like to disturb me by sending me very strange links.

First, let me say that I have been following your writing since the spashley forum. I know, I know, I’m obsessed. It’s been years.

I guess I just wanted to know two things:

The Little Things, is that posted anywhere? I was looking for it on this site and perhaps I missed it?

And I want to know, what do YOU recommend as far as spashley fan fiction goes? I feel like I’ve read every story out there that’s worth reading. Any authors or stories you personally recommend?

Clom isn’t about at the moment (her job has taken her away for a few months and she doesn’t have much internets), but she would tell you to read Blanket of Stars by WaveGoodbye.

There are a couple of previous posts with fic recs that might help you out:

    * PGCCII: Recommendations
    * PGCCCXCII: Pimpage

The best new(ish) thing I’ve read is Post Grad by CJ Button.

And I think we’ve answered the one-legged thing before somewhere. I think the answer is that Clom lost her copy of it when her old Win laptop died. Sorry.
